小明是一個好孩子。有一次，小明和他的同學一起乘著一輛雙增巴士回家時發現了一個錢包。小明的同學説：“哎呀！這個人真不小心啊！”小明回答同學説：“不如我們把這個錢包送去警察局吧？”小明一邊說，一邊拾起了那個錢包。小明的同學説：“什麽？送去給警察局？好麻煩啊！你自己去吧！”
Xiaoming is a good boy. Xiaoming's schoolmate and Xiaoming found a wallet while taking a double-deck bus home on one occasion. Xiaoming's schoolmate said, "Aiyah, this person is so careless!" Xiaoming replied to his schoolmate saying, "Why don't we send this wallet to the police station?" Xiaoming picked up the wallet as he spoke. Xiaoming's schoolmate said, "What? Send to the police station? That is so troublesome! You go on your own!"
小明將錢包給打開來，裏面除了幾張鈔票及些許的銀角外，還有幾張卡片。在這些卡片裏有一張身份証，兩張國家圖書館証，一張校園圖書館証及一些當時所流行的泡泡茶館的優待証。身份證上有著一名樣子長得清秀的女孩的照片。小明對他的同學說：“這裡面沒有學生通車優待証，難怪這女孩掉了錢包還不知道。因爲這女孩下車時不需要掏出她的錢包。”
Xiaoming opened up the wallet and found that besides some dollar notes and coins, there were some cards. Among those cards, there was an identification card, two national library card, one school library card and some bubble tea discount cards which were trendy at that time. The identification card bears a photograph of a very delicate-looking girl. Xiaoming told his schoolmate, "No wonder this girl has no idea that she had dropped her wallet, as the student bus concession pass cannot be found here. This is because this girl need not take out her wallet as she alights the bus."
身份證的背面注著女孩的住家地址。這女孩的家並不靠近小明的家。小明問他的同學：“這女孩不住在我那一帶，看來我們只好真的把這個錢包送去警察局了。”同學回答說：“都跟你說了，我不想和你上警察局。上警察局好麻煩的，你自己去吧！”
The home address of the girl was stated at the back of her identification card. The girl did not stay near Xiaoming's house. Xiaoming told his schoolmate, "This girl doesn't stay in my area, looks like we really have to send this wallet to the police station." The schoolmate replied, "I had already told you that I am not going to the police station with you. Going to the police station is troublesome. You go on your own!"
小明和他的同學所乘坐的巴士是從波納維斯達到后港的。在這趟車途中會經過一所鄰里警局。小明一向來都是在這裡轉車回家而小明的同學是搭到后港的。巴士到了鄰里警局的車站。小明和他的同學道別后便拿了撿到的錢包去了鄰里警局。
The bus that Xiaoming's schoolmate and Xiaoming took travelled from Buona Vista to Hougang. During this trip, the bus will pass by a neighbourhood police centre. Xiaoming used to stop at this stop and transfer to another bus while his classmate heads straight to Hougang. The bus reached the stop at the neighbourhood police centre. Xiaoming took the wallet that he found and left for the neighbourhood police centre after saying goodbye to his schoolmate.
在那裏小明向警察先生們表明了來意。不一會兒，警察先生便向小明索取了口供。爲了以示公正，幫小明錄口供的警察先生當著小明的面前把錢包裏的東西都掏空開來拿來點算並記錄在小明的口供内。警察先生錄完口供后，叫小明審查他所錄的口供便在上面簽字。警察先生告訴小明簽完字后便可以回家了。小明臨走前問警察先生，小明是否會得到通知說警察先生們以順利將失物給物歸原主了。警察先生回答小明這以不是小明的責任了。小明點了點頭便向警察先生到別回家去了。
Xiaoming revealed his intention to the police officer upon arrival. The police officer started taking Xiaoming's statement after a short while. To show fairly, the police officer who was taking Xiaoming's statement took out all the items from the wallet before Xiaoming and had them accounted for in Xiaoming's statement. The police officer told Xiaoming to vet through the statement that he had recorded and sign on it. The police officer told Xiaoming that he could go home after signing on the statement. Xiaoming asked the police officer will he be notified should the police officers return the lost items to the owners successfully before Xiaoming left. The police officer replied to Xiaoming saying that it is no longer the duty of Xiaoming. Xiaoming went back home after nodding his head to what the police officer had said.
這個故事教導了我們做人要路不拾遺。雖然小明還是拾了起來，但小明並沒把撿到的錢包佔為己有。
The moral of the story is not the pick up what was left behind. Although Xiaoming picked up what was left behind, Xiaoming did not claim possession to the found wallet.
